Bayesian sample size planning for developmental studies

چکیده

Abstract Running developmental experiments, particularly with infants, is often time‐consuming and intensive, the recruitment of participants hard expensive. Thus, an important goal for researchers to optimize sampling plans such that neither too many nor few are tested given hypothesis interest. One approach enables optimization use Bayesian sequential designs. The designs allows data collection be terminated as soon evidence deemed sufficiently strong, without compromising interpretability test outcome. In this tutorial, we illustrate how plan a testing design prior by method Bayes factor analysis—the equivalent power analysis—and discuss relevance psychologists. tutorial provides step‐by‐step guide perform analyses, methods illustrated using commonly used statistics in typical infant‐looking time paradigm can easily adapt these their studies. Highlights Sequential Testing sample sizes save on collection. Factor Design Analysis analyze study Step‐by‐step performing Analysis.

Bayesian Sample size Determination for Longitudinal Studies with Continuous Response using Marginal Models

Introduction Longitudinal study designs are common in a lot of scientific researches, especially in medical, social and economic sciences. The reason is that longitudinal studies allow researchers to measure changes of each individual over time and often have higher statistical power than cross-sectional studies. Choosing an appropriate sample size is a crucial step in a successful study. A st...

Comparing two Formulas of Sample Size Determination for Prevalence Studies

Background and purpose: Sample size and its determination is one of the most important problems in health researches. Calculating sample size for prevalence studies is one of the common questions of sample size topics. Minimum sample size with least complexity is desirable in order to achieve the basic goal of these studies. This study aims to compare two formulas of sample size calculation for...

Bayesian Determination of Sample Size in Longitudinal Studies with Binary Responses Using Random Effects Models

Sample size determination is important in all statistical studies including longitudinal studies. This is usually done by considering a target power to reduce the costs of sampling. Choosing the right sample size using efficient methods, ensures that the researcher achieve goal of the study, by spending the least amount of energy, time and money. In this article, using a method based on simulat...

Sample Size Planning 1 Running Head : Sample Size Planning Sample Size Planning with Effect Size Estimates

The use of effect size estimates in planning the sample size necessary for a future study can introduce substantial bias in the sample size planning process. For instance, the uncertainty associated with the effect size estimate may result in average statistical power that is substantially lower than the nominal power specified in the calculation. The present manuscript examines methods for inc...

Bayesian sample size determination for case-control studies with misclassification

Case-control studies are among the most commonly used means of assessing association between exposure and outcome. Sample size determination and the optimal control-to-case ratio are vital to the design of such studies. In this article we investigate Bayesian sample size determination and the control-to-case ratio for case-control studies, when interval estimation is the goal of the eventual st...
